The Department of History offers multiple scholarships for students within the major. Monetary amounts and eligibility requirements for these awards vary, and students must reapply each year for consideration. The following scholarships are awarded annually:
►Duane C. and Marian L. Anderson Scholarship - awarded to an upperclassman who plans to attend graduate school in history.
►Palmer Boeger Award - awarded at the discretion of the History department.
►Briles Scholarship - awarded based on need and a minimum 2.5 GPA.
►Dr. Raymond Estep 2000 Fund - available to history majors who have completed at least 60 hours and have maintained a 3.5 GPA in history and a 3.25 cumulative GPA.
►Dr. Raymond Estep History Scholarship (Incoming Freshmen Only) - awarded to an incoming freshman who has declared History as a major.
►Dr. Raymond Estep History Scholarship--Award of Excellence - awarded to the outstanding student in history as determined by the History Department's Scholarship Committee.
►Lloyd Goss Book Scholarship - awarded at the discretion of the History Department.
►Higginbotham Family Scholarship - awarded to a History major who has completed at least 60 hours with a minimum of 15 hours in history. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required, and the applicant must prepare an essay detailing his/her career goals and intended use of his/her history degree. The recipient of this scholarship is not eligible for the Louise Hornbeak Scholarship but may qualify for the Dr. Raymond Estep scholarships.
►Louise Hornbeak Scholarship in History (pdf requires Adobe Acrobat Reader. Download free.) - awarded at the discretion of the department.
►Marvin Kroeker Writing Award - awarded annually to the History/NAS student who prepares the best paper in his/her major.
►Brad Lemarr Memorial History Scholarship - awarded to a junior or senior History major who has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or above, is a member of Phi Alpha Theta (History honor society), and has presented a paper or poster at one of the following: Phi Alpha Theta Research Day, the Great Plains Honors Conference, or Alpha Chi.
