Grammy-nominated folk musician John Fullbright will be the featured performer at the revitalized AdaFest set for Saturday, Aug. 29, in the Ada Arts District.
AdaFest is free and open to the public.
The music festival begins at 5 p.m. and runs to midnight and will include musicians from the Happyland Music Alliance, the Native American flute-centric group Injunuity and the Oklahoma City-based punk-pop band Haniwa. Each of these performances will be in 30-45 minute sets with Fullbright’s performance to cap off the evening.
AdaFest was a popular festival in Ada that died out in the early 2000s. Through major support from the Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment of the Arts, the festival will be revamped into a music and arts-focused festival in the heart of the arts district.
In addition to the music, food trucks, visual artist booths, kids’ activities and a beer garden will round out the evening’s festivities.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and blankets to this free festival, as well as their appetites. Food trucks with numerous offerings, such as Indian tacos, hot dogs, sliders, nachos, ice cream, Italian ice, numerous desserts and more, will be an affordable and tasty option for dinner.
Attendees of AdaFest of the past will be pleased to see day-long activities taking place on downtown Main Street, including the sale of the ever-popular Strawberries Newport by the Ada High School Couganns, live music, food vendors and a car meet. There will also be a $500 cash drawing. The pre-fest will occur from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. before the music and art festival in the Arts District of Ada commences at 5 p.m.
AdaFest was made possible in part from the generosity of local organizations, such as East Central University, the Chickasaw Nation, Ada Nissan, Ada Arts Council, Ada Rotary and Sunrise Rotary, Ada Main Street, Ada Chamber of Commerce and the East Central University Foundation.
