Dr. Arlie Daniel, professor of communication at East Central University and an Adolph Linscheid distinguished teaching professor, will be inducted into the Central States Communication Hall of Fame April 16 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Central States Communication Association presents the prestigious recognition to individuals who have retired or are nearing retirement and who have contributed to the field of communication through teaching, scholarship or significant mentoring at any level of education.
Hall of Fame recipients also have contributed in various ways to the CSCA and participated in its conventions.
Daniel will be inducted along with his former professor and mentor, Dr. Gustav W. Friedrich, and Dr. Bruce Gronbeck, also one of Daniel's former professors.
Daniel had nominated Friedrich, then was surprised to learn he also had been selected after being nominated by Dr. Robert Greenstreet, chair of ECU's Communication Department.
"Arlie, I believe, will be the first person inducted while he is still a full-time college faculty member," Greenstreet said. "The others have all been retired for several years. It's a singular honor that this recognition was given to him."
Daniel has been active in CSCA for many years. He is a lifetime member and was its executive director from 1994 to 1997 and president in 1999-2000.
The CSCA is one of four regional associations in the United States. It includes Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.
