The internationally acclaimed Dallas Brass will perform its “American Musical Journey” show at East Central University’s Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center at 7 p.m. March 4 [FRIDAY].
The performance incorporates a full complement of brass and percussion for a musical travelogue through American history, from the time of George Washington to the present day.
The program’s music has been selected from the masters – Copland, Bernstein, Gershwin, Berlin and Sousa, and from bands like the Tijuana Brass and Chicago, styles from Dixieland, swing, Broadway, folk, patriotic, pop and even hip-hop.

Dallas Brass’ primary mission includes connecting with young musicians. Its members will participate in a rehearsal with students from Ada High School and Southmoore High School earlier in the day, followed by a clinic with both high school and ECU music students.
During part of the concert, members of the high school bands will perform onstage with Dallas Brass.

Founded in 1983 by Michael Levine, Dallas Brass has become one of America’s foremost musical ensembles.
According to Levine, “A Dallas Brass concert is intended for the entire family. Our goal is to entertain and enrich by playing great music.”
In addition to their solo engagements, Dallas Brass appears with symphony orchestras nationwide. Symphonic credits include the Cincinnati Pops, the New York Pops and the Philly Pops. Dallas Brass has performed at Carnegie Hall, the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and has toured overseas in Europe.
The group has shared the stage with the late Bob Hope, performed for Presidents Gerald Ford and George H.W. Bush and appeared on the CBS Early Show. Dallas Brass music has been used numerous times on the television show, The Young & The Restless. The ensemble has released six recordings, Debut, Dallas Brass II, A Merry Christmas with Brass, Windborne, Nutcracker and American Musical Journey.
