East Central University President Katricia G. Pierson has been selected as one of “50 Making a Difference” for 2018 by The Journal Record’s Woman of the Year Program, it was recently announced.

Pierson, who is ECU’s first female president and has served in that capacity since 2017, will officially be recognized at a gala event on Oct. 11, 2018 at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.

It’s the 38th anniversary of The Journal Record’s Woman of the Year Program which recognizes Oklahoma’s leading women who epitomize leadership in both their professional endeavors and in the communities where they live.

“It’s certainly an honor to receive this special recognition and to be recognized with the many outstanding women who have contributed so much to this state on a professional and community-oriented level,” said Pierson, who will also be recognized in a special magazine that will serve as the program on the night of the gala.

The keynote speaker for the gala will be Linda Alvarado, who is known for breaking stereotypical roles as president and CEO of Alvarado Construction, Inc. She is also the first Latino and first female owner of a Major League Baseball franchise – the Colorado Rockies.
