Experience the unique charms of The Big Easy at East Central University’s “New Orleans Night,” featuring a Dixieland jazz combo, New Orleans-themed sweets and the screening of the Royal National Theatre’s production of A Streetcar Named Desire.

The festivities will begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, in the Bill S. Cole University Center, followed by the screening at 7 p.m. in the Raymond J. Estep Multimedia Center.

Performing in the six-piece Dixieland jazz band, prior to the screening, will be Doug Laramore (trumpet), Mark Hollingsworth (clarinet), Nathaniel Berman (saxophone), Rudy Lipinski (piano), Bronson Warren (bass) and Ben Finley (drums).

ECU SCREENS, in collaboration with Sigma Tau Delta and The Honors Student Association, is conducting the screening of the recorded-live production of A Streetcar Named Desire, performed in London. The screening, open to the public, is $5 for students and $10 for members of the community.

Gillian Anderson (The X-Files, The Fall) “gives a shatteringly powerful performance” (The Independent) as Blanche DuBois, with Ben Foster (Lone Survivor, Kill Your Darlings) as Stanley and Vanessa Kirby (BBC’s Great Expectations, Three Sisters at the Young Vic) as Stella. This National Theatre production of Tennessee Williams’ timeless masterpiece was the fastest-selling production in the venue’s history.

As Blanche’s fragile world crumbles, she turns to her sister Stella for solace – but her downward spiral brings her face to face with the brutal, unforgiving Stanley Kowalski. Visionary director Benedict Andrews returns to the Young Vic with this “bold new London revival” following his Critics’ Circle Award-winning Three Sisters (The Hollywood Reporter).

This showing will be the third in a series of NT Live screenings that have been presented by ECU SCREENS this fall. NT Live is the National Theatre's groundbreaking project to broadcast the best of British theatre to cinemas around the world. ECU SCREENS is presenting eight films, including six different National Theater recorded live-stage performances, throughout the fall semester. The screenings, which range from classic literary masterpieces to popular contemporary works, are all open to the public.
