Former State Treasurer of Oklahoma Scott Meacham will deliver East Central University’s Leonard Limes Lecture at noon Thursday, Oct. 22, in Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.
The dinner and lecture, being held in conjunction with the Tiger Tank Pitch competition, will begin at noon. Lunch is $12 per person and those interested in attending should RSVP by Friday, Oct. 9. The Tiger Tank competition will also take place from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 22.
Meacham is currently president and CEO of i2E, a company which creates knowledge-based jobs in Oklahoma through the development of and investment in high-growth companies.
Meacham served as state treasurer from 2005-2011 where he served on the governor’s cabinet as secretary for finance and revenue from 2003-2011. In this capacity, he was the governor’s primary financial and budget advisor and served as the governor’s chief negotiator on budget, legislative, tribal and other matters
After leaving the state treasurer’s office, Meacham moved on to the Crowe and Dunlevy Law Firm, in which he joined in 2011 as a shareholder and director. He also served as chairman of the banking and financial institutions practice group of that firm.
Previous to his state treasurer’s position, Meacham was chief executive officer, general counsel and lending supervisor of First National Bank and Trust of Elk City. Under his leadership, the bank more than doubled in size and saw increased profits of 150 percent. He moved up to the executive leadership of the bank in 1991 and had served as the bank’s general counsel since 1989. He continues to be associated with the bank as member and secretary of the board of directors and a member of the loan, investment and executive committees.
Limes, a geologist, attorney and entrepreneur from Konawa who lived in New Orleans, established the lectureship to emphasize entrepreneurism in 2000 with a $25,000 gift to the ECU Foundation Inc. He attended ECU for a year and a half in 1946-47 and then completed a degree
in geology from the University of Oklahoma. After he went to night school in New Orleans to earn a law degree, he and two partners formed a law firm for five years. He established an oil and gas exploration company and worked as an attorney specializing in oil- and gas-related legal matters.
