Fourteen East Central University business students have been announced as Class of 2018 Scholar Leaders by the ECU Stonecipher School of Business, it was recently revealed.
The program is geared toward junior and senior business majors who demonstrate academic excellence and are looking for a way to better themselves through student engagement and cultural enrichment.
In order to be a part of the Business Scholar Leaders program, students must have a minimum 3.5 grade-point average, be able to volunteer for special projects and participate in the Dean’s Leadership Council.
The 14 new leaders are: Kamryn Akers, of Stratford; Brayden Battershell, Chickasha; Daniel Christensen, Noble; Cullen Edens, Ada; Chance Hogstad, a resident of Comanche who attended Duncan High School; Yashna Khadgi, a native of Nepal and a resident of Washington, Oklahoma; Allison Maurer, a Goldsby resident who attended Washington High School; Braden Prewett, Konawa; Hunter Ross, Ada; Kacee Schier, Antlers; Brooklin Schwabe, Ponca City; Heather Swan, an Allen resident who attended high school in Canada; Abbie Winchester, Marietta and Chloe Tyler, Krum, Texas.
The Business Scholar Leaders program was established in 2014 through a generous donation from the owners of Kellogg and Sovereign Consulting, LLC. Additionally, several donors/stakeholders have come forward this year to support the program. There is continued help from the ECU Foundation, Inc. as well.
Several benefits are attached to being a part of the Business Scholar Leaders program:
*Students will be allowed to enroll in special business courses that are only available to Business Scholar Leader students.
*Students are members of the ECU student organization, Business Leaders Association (BLA). This organization hosts business speakers, on-campus events, competitions and much more.
*Students receive priority enrollment.
*Students receive a $2,000 annual scholarship and will be able to go on an all-expense paid trip every spring semester, valued at $2,500. In previous spring semesters, trips were taken to New York City, Chicago and this spring they are headed to Seattle. Altogether, members will receive almost $10,000 in scholarships.
