Freshmen Orientation and Welcome Week events are ready for students returning to East Central University for the start of classes on Aug. 17 [MONDAY].
Students can begin moving into residence halls at 8 a.m. Aug. 15 [SATURDAY]. Tiger Streak 2009, ECU's freshman orientation, will begin Saturday afternoon.
A family picnic for ECU students and families will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 15 on The Green, the lawn west of the University Center.
Registration for freshman orientation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 15 [SATURDAY] at Kerr Activities Center. Freshmen will learn the "tiger claw," ECU's fight song and other information at an orientation program at 2:30 p.m. From 3:30 to 4:20 p.m., students will meet in a UNIV 1001-Freshmen Success class while parents can attend a parent orientation session in the Dorothy Summers Theatre.
Following dinner at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 15 [SATURDAY] in the Taff Cafeteria, students will meet in a general assembly at 6:45 p.m. Tiger Fest, a night of concerts featuring the Turnpike Troubadours and Fat Dixie, will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Norris Field.
Sunday activities [AUG. 16] will include a series of 30-minute workshops for students from 2 to 4 p.m. Monster.com, the global online recruitment provider, will host a session from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Dorothy Summers Theatre.
Welcome Week officially begins with the annual Block Party's food, games, organizational booths, a pep rally and a concert by Zoom City from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 16 [SUNDAY] on the lawn west of the University Center.
Local businesses will set up booths on the lawn for the Howdy Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 17 [MONDAY]. Posters will be on sale all day in the University Center and Impact, a student religious organization, will host an all-student welcome party from 6 to 8 p.m. in Pesagi Hall.
The poster sale continues Aug. 18 [TUESDAY] and a movie, "Fast and the Furious," will be shown on the lawn at 9 p.m. Comedian Micheal Palascak will perform at 7 p.m. Aug. 19 [WEDNESDAY] in the Wagner Ballroom in the Memorial Student Union.
An ice cream social is planned from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 20 [THURSDAY] at the University Center. Aug. 21 [FRIDAY] will be Orange and Black Day when everyone wears ECU's school colors.
