Advice on how to negotiate the job market, prepare for interviews and get hired will be offered Wednesday [APRIL 25] at East Central University.
Wendell Godwin, dean of ECU’s School of Business, will conduct a free seminar from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for students and community members seeking either full-time or part-time employment. The seminar will be held in the Estep Multimedia Center in the Bill Cole University Center.
“I will explain how applicants should respond to critical questions and package themselves in the best possible way to maximize their qualifications,” Godwin said.
He also will explain the interview evaluation process, keys to understanding what the recruiter or hiring managers look for and how to tell what is important.
It also is important to know how to match one’s skills to the job description and how to handle questions about salary and compensation, he said. He will talk about how to conduct research on salaries for different positions as well as on a company itself. Social media, what not to say in an interview and what to do after an interview also will be discussed.
What to do once a job offer has been made? Godwin will include how to evaluate the offer and determine the value of each component, and how to negotiate things like time off, vacations, weddings and special circumstances into the offer.
