Dr. Karin M. Perry, the former library media specialist at Whittier Middle School in Norman, has been named project administrator of the Westward Expansion Grant at East Central University in Ada.
The grant allowed ECU to expand its Library Media Specialist Program to rural school districts in western Oklahoma through partnerships with Cameron University, Northwestern Oklahoma State University and Oklahoma Panhandle State University. Teachers in the western half of Oklahoma can earn master of education degrees from ECU with the library media option.
Perry is a National Board Certified Teacher who began teaching at Lakeview Elementary School in Norman in 1999 and became a library media specialist in 2001. She had been at Whittier Middle School since 2005. She also was an adjunct instructor at Rose State College in Midwest City.
Perry received a degree in elementary education from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1998 and a master of library and information studies degree from the University of Oklahoma in 2001. She completed a doctorate in instructional leadership and academic curriculum/English education this summer at OU.
