A traveling exhibit, entitled Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War, is now on display until Oct. 31 in the Linscheid Library on the East Central University campus.
Located on the second floor, the interactive exhibit is about Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, and the obstacles he faced in a divided America and difficult time in U.S. history.
It explores how President Lincoln used the Constitution to challenge three interwoven issues of the Civil War – the secession of Southern states, slavery and wartime civil liberties.
The exhibit, free and open to the public during the library’s open hours, is composed of informative panels featuring photographic reproductions of original documents, including a draft of Lincoln’s inaugural speech, the Emancipation Proclamation and the 13th Amendment.
The traveling exhibit was organized by the National Constitution Center and the American Library Association Public Programs Office and was made possible by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH): great ideas brought to life. The exhibit is based on an exhibition of the same name developed by the National Constitution Center.
A series of lectures are also scheduled periodically throughout the stay of the exhibit. Go to http://ecok.libguides.com for more details.
