Alan Marcum, executive vice president for administration at Devon Energy, will be one of the executives advising high school students selected for a one-of-a-kind Oklahoma Business Week summer camp July 8-13 at ECU in Ada. Marcum is a graduate of ECU.
A competitive application process will select 100 campers who will be divided into teams to form companies, compete in a business simulation contest and hear presentations by other noted business and government leaders as they learn to make daily business decisions.
Completed applications should be returned by the next application review date on May 7 [MONDAY].
Providing students with a unique perspective into the business world will be business executives and ECU graduates Michael Prince, COO of Guess Incorporated; Brad Fenton, owner of Fenton Motor Groups; Craig Sheef, CEO and president of Texas Security Bank; B.I. Bridgwater, retired AT&T executive and consultant; and Chickasaw Nation Gov. Bill Anoatubby; as well as state Sen. Susan Paddack; and ECU President John Hargrave, also ECU graduates.
Others are Rhett Laubauch, a leadership expert and founder/operator of YourNextSpeaker; Mary Melon, publisher of the Journal Record newspaper; Congressman Tom Cole; and state Rep. Lisa Johnson Billy.
Participants, who must be state high school students currently in grades 10 or 11, will have a chance to win prizes, including laptops and scholarships to ECU. They will live in ECU residence halls and participate in a variety of activities on the ECU campus.
Stacey Bolin, camp director and ECU instructor of computer science and business administration, said the camp will help students gain skills in leadership, communication, team building, responsibility, money management, entrepreneurship and marketing.
