Friday [APRIL 16] is the last day to reserve tickets for East Central University's Evening of Honors and Recognition, a dinner that will honor the university's 2010 distinguished alumni, family and former faculty member.
The dinner will begin at 6 p.m. April 23 [FRIDAY] in the Stanley P. Wagner Ballroom in the Memorial Student Union.
The 2010 distinguished alumni are August Petersen, a senior partner, officer, board member, investor and consultant to numerous Texas business ventures and a faculty member at the University of Texas, and Randy Grinnell, the deputy director for the Indian Health Service, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Petersen majored in accounting and business administration and graduated with honors in 1975 after being selected the university's Outstanding Student and the School of Business' Most Distinguished Graduate.
Grinnell earned a bachelor's degree in environmental health science from ECU in 1976. Before joining the Indian Health Service he completed a 30-year career as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service, Environmental Health Officer category.
The Distinguished Family Award will be presented to the Clements-Compton Family, actually two families who are connected by marriage and as former ECU football players.
Dr. Davis D. Joyce, professor emeritus of history, will receive the Distinguished Former Faculty Award. He taught at ECU from 1987 to 2002.
