Three one-act plays directed by students in East Central University's Play Directing class will be presented at 8 p.m. April 23-26 [THURSDAY-SUNDAY] in ECU's Black Box Theatre. Admission is free but seating is limited.
The Black Box Theatre is located in Room 134 on the ground floor of Science Hall.
Junior Anthony Bowie will direct the first play, "The Philadelphia," which comes from David Ives' "All in the timing" comedies. In "Philadelphia," everything goes wrong. Taxis don't go where they're supposed to go, newsstands don't sell the right newspapers, and no matter what someone orders in a restaurant, they end up with a cheesesteak.
Characters include Al, played by Jonathon Moore; Mark, played by local resident Denny Lindesmith; and the Waitress, played by Jessica Welt.
Fred Carnichael's "He's having a baby!" explores what would happen if men had the babies -- "Congress had to let out of session early on account of the President having a baby." Randi Christy Hall is the director. Cast members include Katie Wilson, Jamie Mata, Lauren Durbin, Amy Southerland and Samantha Elliot.
Agatha Christie's "The Rats" will be directed by sophomore Lauren Hathcoat. The play is about a couple caught having an affair. They are set up to make it appear they have committed a murder. Actors are Lynette Christy as Sandra, Rob Inman as David, Katie Wilson as Jennifer and Roy Harris as Alec.
Dr. Richard Groetzinger, assistant professor of communication, teaches the class. For additional information, contact Groetzinger at 559-5600 or rgroetzi@ecok.edu.
