Cantu, who is majoring in physical education with teacher certification, received the award at the ECU Department of Education’s spring awards luncheon. East Central University student Rosa Denton (left) of Porum is named a Rising Star in Early Childhood Education at the ECU Department of Education’s spring awards luncheon. Dr. Brenda Walling, chair of the Education Department, made the presentation. Denton also received a Dr. Donnie and Shirley Nero Scholarship that honors the ECU alums. Nero is the retired president of Connors State College.

Kristin Sneed (left) of Seminole, an elementary education major at East Central University, receives the Jess and Trudy Nance Scholarship at the ECU Department of Education’s spring awards luncheon. The award, which was presented by Yvonne Bedford, instructor of education, was created by the Nance children in honor of their parents who were life-long educators.

Dr. Ben Harper, professor of education, made the presentation. Lawson’s five children, all ECU teacher education graduates, created the scholarship as a memorial to their parents.
