Stand By Me, Under the Boardwalk, and There Goes My Baby are just some of the tunes audience members will be tapping their toes to when Bobby Hendricks’ Drifters perform at East Central University’s Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 [Friday]. Tickets are $18 for non-season ticket holders and may be purchased online attickets.ecok.edu or at the box office the night of the show.

In 1957, Bobby Hendricks and his group The Five Crowns were the opening act for the Drifters. They were so impressed with Hendricks’ tenor voice that they offered him the position of lead vocalist, replacing Johnny Moore.

Hendricks toured with the biggest stars of 1957 including, Paul Anu, The Diamonds, Buddy Holly, The Everly Brothers, Fats Domino, The Big Bopper and many more.

Hendricks left the Drifters is 1958 to pursue a solo career. His hit Itchy Twitchy Feeling, on which was backed by the Coasters, gave him a top 30 hit. In 1964, Hendricks rejoined the Drifters.

In 2000, he reunited with Bill Pinkney and the original Drifters to perform on Doo Wop 51 which has been nationally televised. He was inducted into the Doo Wop Hall of Fame of America at Symphony Hall, in Boston on April 13, 2001.
