The Vagina Monologues, an Obie Award Winning Production written by Eve Ensler, will be presented by the ECU Theatre Department, Feb. 4-6, in the Chalmers Herman Theatre of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.
The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. each night.
Ensler began writing these monologues in the 1970s and it was performed off Broadway for the first time in 1996. It has been translated into more than 45 languages, performed in more than 120 countries and re-created as an HBO film.
By writing the monologues, Ensler wanted to shed light on violence against women. Her desire was for all women’s voices to be heard, including a 6-year-old girl, a Bosnian survivor of rape, a women who witnesses the birth of her granddaughter, a vagina workshop participant and a feminist happy to have found a man who “liked to look at it.”
The production is being directed by ECU student Mason Gibson.
The cast members include: Micah Lachelle Cowan, of Ada; Jaime Aupperle, Moore; Sarah Snow, Shawnee; Molly West, Milburn and Cheyney Taylor, Skiatook.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $9 for senior citizens and non-ECU students. ECU alumni receive a $1 discount and admission is free for all ECU students, faculty and staff with an ECU ID.
