Brandon's Story
Brandon N. Whitten, age 25, passed from this life on Friday, February 15, 2002. The son of Reggie Whitten and Terry Hudson, Brandon lived life to the fullest. He was deeply loved by many, and he loved his family and friends deeply as well. Brandon was a college student at Oklahoma Community College where he was studying to be an EMT/fireman and he worked at All-American Fitness Center. An outstanding football player at Westmoore High School, Brandon received letters of recruitment from numerous football programs ranging from the University of Oklahoma to Oklahoma State. He was a member of Wildwood Community Church in Norman. Brandon was a young man with great promise.
When Brandon died in a motorcycle accident in 2002, his father, Reggie Whitten, was devastated. A "walking dead man" in search of a reason to live, he found purpose in raising awareness of Brandon's addiction to prescription drugs and alcohol. Like the phoenix that has become the emblem of the institute, Reggie Whitten rose from the ashes of despair and loss to create the Brandon Whitten Institute for Addiction & Recovery to help individuals, families and communities recover from the devastating effects of substance abuse and addiction.
