All scholarships require full-time attendance (12 hours for undergraduate; 6 hours for graduate) unless indicated otherwise.
All scholarships require a 3.0 cumulative GPA unless indicated otherwise.
All scholarships are for fall and/or spring semester only (summer not included) unless indicated otherwise.
All Politics, Law, & Society scholarship recipients are recommended by the department, with final approval by the ECU Foundation Scholarship Committee.
Any exceptions must be approved by the department chair and the Foundation Scholarship Committee.


ATHENA INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded based on need and a minimum 3.0 GPA. This scholarship was established by the Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society for students that demonstrate excellence in academics. 

BRILES SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded based on need and a minimum 2.5 GPA. Originally established as a part of the Federal Student Loan Program, this scholarship was transferred to the ECU Foundation in 1995.

DR. EDWARD BROOKS SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has chosen Legal Studies as a major and who has maintained academic excellence in his/her college career. Dr. Brooks taught government at ECU for several years and this scholarship was established in his memory by a former student, Kelvin Williams.

JAMES BROWN 'JB' LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to full-time students with a declared major within the Department of Politics, Law, and Society.  Preference will be given to students with a 3.0 GPA, preference will be given to students from McAlester, Oklahoma, and preference will be given to African American and Native American students. If no African American student or student from McAlester is eligible to receive the scholarship, then another student in the Department of Politics, Law, and Society may be awarded the scholarship.  James Brown 'JB' was a 1975 Political Science graduate of East Central University.  Upon graduation he began his teaching career at McAlester high School, where he taught for over 40 years.  He was also a member of the McAlester City Council where he was serving as the Vice-Mayor.  He had previously served on the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board.  JB was a proud ECU alumni and had proudly served on the East Central University Alumni Board of Directors since 2011.  He would encourage students to attend ECU by often providing ECU swag to potential students.  He was also an ECU Homecoming fixture.  Often he would bring one or more ECU graduates from McAlester with him to ride on the Alumni vehicle during the parade.  His laugh, smile, and words of encouragement made a big difference to all of his students.  This scholarship was established by family and friends in his memory.  

GILLETTE CONN SCHOLARSHIP
Jack Conn established this scholarship in memory of his wife Gillette. This scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior who has maintained a 3.0 GPA or above. The recipient will have a declared major in Political Science or Legal Studies. This scholarship is also awarded to a student with a declared major of Human Resources.

FRANCISCO-HATCHETT SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to outstanding students who plan to attend law school. Hallie Brown Ford, ECU alumna, established this scholarship to reward academic excellence in the areas of Pre-Law, Pre-Medicine, and scientific research. It is named after two of her favorite teachers when she was in attendance at ECU and must be awarded equally to male and female students.

JUSTICE RUDOLPH HARGRAVE LEGAL STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the department. Justice Hargrave, an ECU graduate, served as Chief Justice of the Oklahoma Supreme Court, and his family has established this scholarship in his honor and memory.  

R. BURL HARRIS LEGAL STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior student majoring in Legal Studies who has maintained a minimum 3.5 GPA. Mr. Harris was an ECU alumni, a long-time member of the Ada legal community, and a founding member of the ECU Foundation, Inc. His wife Jan established this scholarship in his memory.

HIGGINBOTHAM FAMILY LEGAL STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior student who is active in campus activities and who has maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA. Dorothy Higginbotham was an ECU graduate who understood and appreciated the value of higher education, and she established this scholarship as part of her estate planning. HIGGINBOTHAM FAMILY POLITICAL SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior student who is active in campus activities and who has maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA. Dorothy Higginbotham was an ECU graduate who understood and appreciated the value of higher education, and she established this scholarship as part of her estate planning. JUDGE MARKTHA K. KILGORE LEGAL STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to full-time students with a declared major within the Department of Legal Studies.  The recipient must have completed 75 credit hours with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, must be accepted into the Legal Studies Program and have completed at least 12 hours at East Central University.  This scholarship was established by Judge Kilgore's family, friends and colleagues to honor her legacy in judicial excellence and as a public servant.  Judge Kilgore served for over 25 years as Associate District Judge in the 22nd Judicial District, Pontotoc County in Ada, Oklahoma.  

FRANCIS E. MAYHUE CENTENNIAL PRE-LAW SCHOLARSHIP (Sophomore)

FRANCIS E. MAYHUE CENTENNIAL PRE-LAW SCHOLARSHIP (Senior)
These scholarships will be awarded to students who plan to attend law school. Funds were provided as a result of a gift from the estate of Francis E. Mayhue, long-time Ada resident and member of the legal community.

DEAN PETERSON LEGAL STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has declared a major in Legal Studies and who has maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA. Dean Peterson is a long-time member of the Ada legal community and former instructor at ECU. This scholarship was established by her family and friends.

JULIAN ROTHBAUM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the department. This scholarship was established in honor and memory of Mr. Rothbaum by his family, friends, and colleagues.

DR. JOHN J. ULRICH PUBLIC SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in Political Science or Legal Studies, with public service as the main requirement. This scholarship was established in Dr. Ulrich’s memory by ECU alumni Kyle and Kendall Foster who stated, “He made a big impact on us and we think he was an incredible example of someone who led a life dedicated to public service.”

WES WATKINS WATER RESOURCE POLICY AND MANAGEMENT SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a student in the master's program for Water Resource Policy and Management or an undergraduate student who is planning to join the Water Resource Policy and Management program upon graduation. The recipient will be a full-time ECU student with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. The recipient will be chosen by the Water Resource Policy and Management Advisory Board or its designee and the Chair of the Department of Political Science. 

A.T. AND ETHEL WATSON FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP 
This scholarship will be awarded to an incoming freshman at ECU, and may be awarded for multiple semesters. The recipient must have a minimum 3.0 GPA with a declared major of Political Science or Legal studies. Financial need will be a consideration. This scholarship was originally established by Doris McCoy, and has been supplemented by friends and colleagues.
